Use of vans in India

Hi, can anyone tell me if the term "van" (as in the big car/people carrier) is widely used in India?

I have of course tried Google and looked for number searches, but I still don't have a clear picture. Although there seems to be some use of the word, it seems the Vans shoes are more searched for...

Or maybe Indians use another word for these kind of automobiles?

vans are normally used for school , college transport. but now a days buses are used more due to population. we can say that van is some what decreasing in usage.

By the way, you don't use the word "lorry" for trucks like the British, do you?
