The US has introduced an online registration scheme for visitors to the US. Visitors from countries that do not require a visa are required to fill an online form at least 72 hours before they travel.

This online scheme replaces the green I-94 form that you would normally fill in on the airplane and hand to customs.

Those who have not registered risk being detained and sent back home.

The online forms known as Esta (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) can be accessed at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/esta.html

Once an application is approved, it will be valid for all visits to the US for a two-year period.
