LinkedIn, a social network site catering to professionals, has been sold to software giant Microsoft.

The price: $26.2 billion dollars, which will bring to Microsoft a direct access to its 433 million members.

Microsoft plans to integrate the service into other products, such asCortana and Skype.

Many domain investors are using LinkedIn as a way to interconnect, that expands on professional and personal linking.

There are, however, bogus profiles among those who claim to be domain industry professionals.

Microsoft seems to be endorsing dot .Group domains lately, while LinkedIn faced some backlash about the fate of stolen passwords.

Wow, linkedin to microsoft. I guess I could have seen it coming, 26.2 billion is pretty meaty though. I guess it's gotta be worth it in the long run, 433 million professionals is pretty intense

Let's hope this acquisition is for the better. Linkedin already was great so far, but was not the only option out there. Nevertheless is one of the biggest social networks behind twitter and facebook. 433 million members is quite huge.

That was a good score on the part of Microsoft. I like Linkedin because it always came across as the grown-up version of Facebook. You can make a business page on FB, but why bother when Linkedin is an option?

LinkedIn is not popular among my coworkers. It's probably because other social network websites are integrated with various features, so the members base is more crowded there. Building business pages or channels will be easier there as they will reach consumers faster. We are heavy consumers of Microsoft products, though. If the website is later combined with Skype and Cortana, it will probably be used more.
