Often a website owner will be unaware that his or her website has been hacked until a long time after the fact (and after damage has been caused!). To help combat this problem, Donna Fontenot has released a handy new tool (MonitorHackdFiles) that will immediately notify you via email if a file has been changed or added on your website.

Some of the common things a hacker will do to your site:

1) serving hidden links to unsavory places

Yes, this a very popular technique by hackers! For example, one day, you may find a bunch of unsavory terms hidden in your footer.

2) or redirecting just search users to unsavory sites that is then infecting those users? computers with malware

Even the Embassy of India in Spain was a victim of a malware-related tactic.

3) or some other equally nefarious thing.

Like stealing information from your site, which causes you monetary loss?

While the tool won't prevent an attack on your website, it helps you find out immediately via email that your site has been hacked.

Donna previously released another handy tool, the Ad Rate Calculator.

Looks like a good script.

INForum Blog once got hacked it was very disappointing to see the blog disappear from Google - in fact, that's how I noticed it was hacked.

I'll try this out later.
