DMCAs - worth it?

Has anyone filed a DMCA, and do you find them effective? It is supposed to be a good way to get copied content removed, but some of the companies make filing it really hard if you're not in the US, and other companies just ignore them.

I've done it once at work, but found filing an abuse complaint with their hoster and ISP much faster and more effective at getting the copied site pulled down.
