redOrbit reports that a major security flaw has been discovered in the Internet Explorer browser.

The flaw leaves users of the browser vulnerable to having their computers hijacked. According to Trend Micro Inc., an antivirus software maker, nearly 10,000 sites have been compromised in the last week in an attempt to exploit the flaw.

The sites serve up programs that steal passwords for computer games that are then sold on the black market.

Until Microsoft fixes this flaw, internet users should switch to another browser. I like using FireFox.

thank you for sharing. we can not really avoid this kind of thing. i also use firefox. it is my default web page. i do not really use internet explorer.

Microsoft has now released a patch (KB960714) to fix the IE security flaw. Even though I mainly use FireFox, I still updated my Internet Explorer browser as I use it every once in a while.

I managed to get the patch by checking for updates via Microsoft Update.

Be sure to install the patch if you use Internet Explorer!
