Using twitter

This has been said to be the most popular social media platform. Has anyone of you used it to network online as well as give a personality to your brand? What would you refer to as Twitter etiquette?

Well, Twitter to me is by far the most suitable social networking site. I know that Facebook has a huge following but the former seems to have a better segmented client pool.

Well, we've seen it play out again and again that customer service makes a big difference. It's important to respond politely and solve any problems that arise. It's also savvy to be wise with hashtags. Use the wrong one and the brand could be accused of being tone deaf, misappropriating a culture, or spamming.

Very true, and businesses are left with very minimal options, in the current set-up. If you don't respond wisely and politely, retweets could easily kill your brand. Can you try to picture how life was before the social media marketing era?

I have always preferred Facebook over Twitter when it comes to social media, both personally and professionally. However, I do know that a lot of people do use it network and they enjoy it quite well.

@Mikhaela, I think it depends on the kind of your business set up, as well as the nature of the clientelle. I know a couple of people and/or businesses that are big on Facebook but have zero presence on Twitter.

I imagine that it's more affordable and easier to advertise now, but that it's harder than ever to capture your demographics' attention. People seem to have shorter attention spans and are always multitasking.

I agree and that's why it is said that to be able to capture people's attention, an advertisement should be brief and straight to the point. I think that the biggest task for a company now is to deliver its promises. Falling short of this is simply letting the competitors have their way.

According to my 20 something children, FB is old fashion and is only used for the "older" generation. With that I see a lot of posts of dogs, cats, other pets. And a lot of photos of meals because what one is about to consume for dinner is very important to the other friends you have on FB. Don't get much of that on Twitter. So it really depends on the demographic you are trying to reach. Young tech savvy internet users, go with Twitter. Older crowd who likes to share what they are eating, where their aches and pains are and what time they are going to bed, go with FB. Just my observations. I have both accounts and use both accounts depending on the product I am trying to sell.
 
I'm on Facebook, but I must say I find that sometimes it seems rather intrusive.

Maybe it's just me who doesn't like too many 'suggestions' about what I can do on their site.

I'm also on Twitter, which I find simpler to use.
