New York City makes $300,000 so far in selling domain names ending with .nyc. and it is not over:
A geo domain is grabbing industry headlines in the nTLD space. New York City made a cool $24,000 selling one dope domain name, though it might have gotten fleeced on a few other .nyc deals.
The city sold marijuana.nyc at auction for $60,920 and made 40% of that sum per its deal with domain name administrator Neustar.
Other potentially high-demand domain names did not sell as well. Starbucks.nyc, 1wtc.nyc and even kimkardashian.nyc sold for $10 apiece.
Marijuana.nyc was bought by Upper West Side resident and podiatrist Bruce Pinker. Others purchased weed.nyc, pot.nyc and cannabis.nyc, which sold for a combined $13,516.
"All I can say right now is that legalization of recreational marijuana is a 'no brainer' for New York state, as well as most of the 50 states," said Dr. Pinker.
The city did pretty big business in the ganja-themed domain market, as weed.nyc, pot.nyc and cannabis.nyc sold for a combined $13,516 to Paul Warshaw, also of the Upper West Side.
