The Rise of .io: How to Value and Sell for Profit - With Mike Carson

IT.com
I have recently been seeing a lot of new websites with the .io extension. I am not sure how long they will last, or if in fact they will become popular.

Any thoughts?

Like any website, if it provides value and customer learn about it -- then it will last.

Check out the description on https://flippa.com/6077553-idea-io for who's using .io. I just signed up with a new website survey service called Mare.io that I really like.

If you're in the startup world, you know .io is cool. If you're an old school "brick and mortar" then you have no idea what .io is. Maybe it's like SnapChat for domains? As an adult I have no idea why I need another texting program, but 100 million daily active users in the 13 to 35 age range know otherwise.

"Techies with taste". I feel more like taking chances with new, unique ideas. That's probably what "techies" like to do, doing experiments even with unpopular ones and find ways to shoot them to popularity. Sometimes we feel like limited by the old extensions despite the popularity.
