George Kirikos Uncovers Another Huge Sale That Ranks Among the Year's Top Ten

By Ron Jackson

By relentlessly digging through corporate SEC filings George Kirikos has uncovered so many previously unreported major sales I lost count long ago. Suffice it to say that our annual Top 100 Charts would look a lot different without the spadework he's done. George did it again this week while looking through a report filed by Wave Systems Corp (WSC) who had gone into bankruptcy. WSC owned the top tier domain name, Wave.com, that was quietly auctioned off by the court, bringing $420,000 - a number George confirmed through an April order made by the bankruptcy court.

That makes Wave.com the [...] 8th biggest sale reported so far this year. George believes the price would have been considerably higher if the auction had been more widely publicized and I agree with him on that.

There are a lot of companies that would benefit mightily from the name. Kirikos noted that in his city alone, Toronto, there is a company named Wave that has 1.7 million customers in more than 200 countries and it's a firm that has also raised $20 million in funding - more than enough to nail down what would have been an invaluable asset for them. Instead the domain is now owned by New York City based Chime Inc. who is using it to run a money transfer service.
