Study on Internet Freedom: India "Partly Free"

Freedom on the Net has issued a report which aims to measure the internet and new media freedom of 37 countries. The report looks at obstacles to access, limits on content and violations of user rights. The scoring system is as follows:

Free = 0-30 points
Partly Free = 31-60 points
Not Free = 61-100

The "best" was Estonia and the "worst" was Iran.

As you will see below, India is listed as "partly free" and has a total "Freedom On The Net" score of 36. Here's the full list:

Although the study’s findings indicate that the threats to internet freedom are growing and have become more diverse, they also highlight a pushback by citizens and activists who have found ways to sidestep some of the restrictions and use the power of new internet-based platforms to promote democracy and human rights.

In 23 of the 37 countries assessed, a blogger or other internet user was arrested for content posted online.

As you can see, the internet in the USA is shown as free. The USA wasn't so "free" when it seized gambling domains without notice..some food for thought.
