Sedo, the largest domain name marketplace, conducted a research on awareness and understanding of new TLDs on countries like China, USA, UK and Germany.

The survey revealed the data showing that China is much more advanced as far as awareness of the new Top Level Domains (TLDs) is concerned and has a much positive outlook about their adoption and usage.
China leads the others leaving behind USA and UK in the awareness, understanding and usage of the new gTLDs.

What new gtlds are the Chinese supposedly using?

To the best of my knowledge they are only buying ASCII/ numeral com & .cn?

It's not just the Chinese gTLDs. They are also utilizing the benefits of other new gTLDs that are getting released in the market.
When a particular extension is available for general public to buy(any extension), Chinese are far better at grabbing the opportunity and booking good names before other countries.
That what I meant to say.
