Security breach

If your website deals with sensitive data, do you think determining who will be responsible for a security breach (that can easily be prevented) will ensure that the web developer puts enough security measures? How important is an indemnification clause in such a case?

Definitely yes. I think that when it is clear (to the web developer) that they are responsible for any security breach, then better measures can be put to avert them. If not stated explicitly, then a loophole results.

An indemnification clause is a good idea. In this case, the web developer would commit to be liable for any security breaches, should they result in a loss or cause a third party to sue.The computation of this compensation can also be stated. My only worry would be bringing this up in the middle of the contract.
