I know that their are 6 zones reserved for use by qualified institutions ( .ac.in , .edu.in, .res.in , .ernet.in , .gov.in , & .mil.in ). what I'm not sure of is the .co.in , I know it was originally for banks,trademarks,etc...is that domain still only reserved for registered companies or can anyone get a .co.in domain. & if so , what registrars offer the domain ?. does the same thing hold true for the other indian domains such as ( .firm.in , .net.in , .org.in , etc ). thank you for any replies in advance.

I would focus primarily on .in and possibly top tier .co.in domains. There's not enough demand / general recognition for the others to be worth investing in.

We've got a registrar forum at:
http://www.inforum.in/forums/registrars.7/
where some of the more popular registrars are discussed.

I think that the only registrar that is a member here is Mitsu:
http://www.inforum.in/members/mitsu.604/
who participates in the forum regularly and views domainers favourably.

I agree with Jeff, focus on .in and .co.in (used by large corp such Google and many large Indian banks also).

thanks jeff , aubits. so .co.in is open to everyone , not just registered companies in india or elsewhere. I've seen some of mitsu 's posts , didn't realize he was a registrar. thanks guys I will focus on .in & .co.in for the time being & by the way jeff iv'e been spending a lot of time on INForum.in reading posts & learning all I can , I love the site.
