Hello,
I just wanted to share my opinion on how I feel about .in and Adult/Porn related names.
1) I understand that online Adult/Porn Industry in India is publicly CONDEMNED by all major OFFICIALS in the Government starting right from the President, same sentiment exists in all major Political parties and their Leaders as well.
2) ".IN" Registry, if it condemns Adult/Porn names they should reserve the names and not leave them in Wild leaving room to wild speculation/confusion. Because the world we live in goes like this, if you don't register a Adult/Porn domain(or any domain for that matter) that is available then somebody will register it and quite possibly launch a porn website and create trouble and get into trouble. Why leave room for error and complications. Make a policy on it, STOP porn KEYWORDS from getting registered as domains, it is not difficult at all considering the available technology. Ambiguity and assuming PUBLIC will refrain themselves from registering problem domains is not a WISE thing to do. The world we live in is BIG and ".IN" names are made available world over. Yes PORN in India is not allowed. But can we think and assume that a Prospective domainer/developer somewhere in the world will think about legalities involved? no most of the time, because it never crossed the domainers mind that it is illegal to do so.
Then who is the culprit here? Domainer/developer in question or the Registry which left room for ambiguity and confusion? which can be prevented by making a specific rule and blocking PORN KEYWORDS.
If this world is a perfect place we will not have this many cases, disputes etc. So I feel nothing can be left in OPEN based on assumptions. We should look at what happened in other countries and take necessary actions. Just because ".IN" is available worldwide. There are so many measures taken world over to stop UNDERAGE KIDS from accessing the websites in question, parental controls, mentor ship and more. Internet is a BIG THING, if there are no specific rules or if there are no strict measures/enforcement it is impossible to get hold of the problem addressed.
In my case what I have done is I came across one adult name that is available to register, I registered it and kept it at "SERVER NOT FOUND" Status. If not me somebody else might have taken it. So I acted as a STOPPER registered the name and made it kind of USELESS.
So what happens to this name in future? If you ask me that question I will say, it just stays there and never sees light of the day until something is solid on the ".IN" registries end by either blocking porn keywords so that new domains can't be registered or suspending and deleting the existing names or both so that existing ones are gone and new ones can't be registered. If ".IN" registry opens up the segment then it is a different story.
Let's be honest in saying that Adult entertainment is nothing new, it cannot be eliminated from peoples lives however you try. Only thing one can do is accept it as it is or Condemn it in totality by taking necessary action. Adult entertainment is in our NATURE some take it easy, some want it etc. We have centuries(actually 1000's of years) of History behind it.
That said what is the origin of KAMASUTRA? where did it came from... What about the internet porn Industry that is flourishing based on one keyword DESI with suffix or prefix. In India it looks like it is OK if you enjoy adult entertainment privately, you will be Condemned if you do it publicly. It seems raw to me. We can do better here.
Government should understand, monitor the behavior of people(by polls/referendum) see where Indians are going when it comes to Adult Entertainment and take appropriate measures. Isn't government there for people? and by the people? India is a Democracy and even though there is considerable corruption, we always stand out. We excel and numbers show the progress, the real world data on India's Economy and it's Growth as a nation of people who are good at everything. Well Almost
I am sure there is work going on in this regard at highest levels in the Government/IN Registry. It is just a matter of time before something is written in STONE.
I applaud the people concerned who has made .IN available to the world and not just India. We are a democracy after all and I am very happy about it.
Please feel free to add in your opinions/comments.
Regards,
Nanda.
