Linking and passing off

I tend to be very careful around the use of links. I once heard of a certain website that used a link to lay claim to another person's work. If I may ask, what's the minimum penalty that infringement of copyright attracts?

I'm not sure that I understand your question. How did this one website claim someone else's work through a link? I don't get how that is possible. Please elaborate a little more.

I would call it plagiarism in a way. For instance, a website could use a link to redirect a user to another page and make it look like their own. It is illegal to do this but I'm not sure how much the penalty is. Me thinks this varies depending on jurisdictions.

Sounds Black Hat to me, but like Dusart said, a little more elaboration is needed here. Did the link "say" one thing while the site was a knock-off of something else's site?
