The Registry should work to brand .in as cool - it works much better - INternet, INternational, etc.

I would imagine that for personal websites/blogs, the .me extension can be very appropriate.

I do have a .io extension domain but only got it because it has 3 letters in the name before the .io, otherwise, I wouldn't have been too attracted to it.

As for .in, yes they can be cool, and I have one of those.

Easier for a registry to sit back and collect renewal fees each year. :)

I don't own any .io domains due to the high renewal costs.

I own a few .io domains. High purchase and renewal costs mean that you have to be very watchful and get taken in just because "you liked the sound of it". .io's are popular with tech companies so if it is not a #LLL or name good for a tech company then I try to stay away.

I've got a few .io domains too. I receive offers fairly regularly, but only for $100 to $200.

Is it better to take the money whilst it's there, or wait it out and risk either letting it expire, or pay out for a further year?

I suppose you have to look at them all on a case by case basis.

I think you have to look at it on a case by case basis. How many inquires do you get on that domain, what kind of offers are you receiving and most important, how long are you willing to wait and how much are you willing to spend on renewals waiting for that better offer! Domaining is not easy and knowing what to ask and how long to hold a domain only comes with experience.

They cost $99 when drop caught at park.io. But yes, over time what I quote for them goes down.

That is why you stick to .com and .in domains. $10 renewal cost.

I'm personally not willing to wait on .IO domains.

Though if the name is just perfect for your website, and the other top extensions are all taken, it's probably worth paying higher renewal fees for the .io alternative.
