The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) recently published a survey on the patterns and trends of micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) in India.
With regard to online B2B suppliers, the survey reveals that:
(1) "a little more than 99%" use the internet for communication purposes (emails, instant messaging etc);
(2) 99% use the internet to access online B2B marketplaces;
(3) 73% use the internet to run their own websites; and
(4) 55% use the internet to promote/market their products and services online.
As these Indian B2B suppliers are doing a lot of business with countries such as the USA, UK and Dubai, I wonder how many of them are using Indian domains? I think they should own both the .IN plus the cctld of the country they are doing business with, so that they preserve regional-specific branding.
Hey, finding out which domain extensions are being used would make an interesting survey, don't you think?
With regard to the remaining 27%, I hope it's just a matter of time before these MSMEs get their own websites!
