When a tld is introduced, the domain names will be available for auction. But in most of the cases i have seen that most of the domains will not be available. Say for example i want the domain name infosys.in. But it is not available. Why is this so?

I think because Infosys is a trademark brand and maybe they aren't allowed to be sold out in open , due to copyright issues.

Usually there is a period before registration opens when trademark owners can apply for domains with their trademark in it.

Yea, I too know a bit about this, The trademark companies are offered the domain names first before they are out in public. Had it not been so, Companies would have been fighting many legal domain issues :p
