Flipping domains?

IT.com
I think for most people here, it is an income on the side, not a full-time income, with a hope that .in really takes off for a big payday down the road. But there are several people that have made six figures (USD) in .in.

Jeff is right, most people here are .IN/.CO.IN domaining to supplement their income or simple pay renewals on huge portfolios but the moment India really kicks off (and it's coming!), several members here will be kicking back with a cold one on an exotic beach somewhere grinning from ear-to-ear at their handsome retirement fund.

That's not to say there are no flipping opportunities in .IN/.CO.IN though, in fact its been quite contrary since the Chinese invasion into the extension. For example, people could hand register NNN.co.in back in December for a couple of bucks and they are now selling for between $200 and $400. Similarly CHIPS LLLL.in names have been hand registered and pretty much flipped the following day for 3-4 times cost price. If you've been smart over the last 6 months you could have made a bucket load of cash, it's just having that foresight to make a few plunges at just the right time :)

Awesome informaton from everyone here, thanks a lot. What do you mean by the moment when India kicks off?

As the Indian economy continues to grow, domain flipping will only become more and more prevalent. Think of it like real estate -- most of the common domains are already snatched up and being used or held for a big sale down the road. The market is there, but it's risky to wait for a big payday since the income is uneven and may not come for several years. Additionally, as new industries grow, domains that may not have been valuable will suddenly become more valuable.
