Domain name related question

Hi,

I have a question from legal perspective. Say thrs a popular site running with address as XXYY.in where XX is a common word like 'coupon' and YY is 'planet' and I want to buy a new domain as newxxyy.in. Is thr any way company xxyy can claim rights over my new domain or serve me a legal notice?

Apologies if I had to post a crude example as I am not sure if I am allowed to post direct links this being my first post.

In your example, it's quite possible that xxyy.in could succeed at legal action against newxxyy.in. A lot is going to depend on the trademark strength of the yy part of the domain but in the example you give it would seem like there is a good case to me.
