Cheap imitations

You must have come across a website that purported to sell something only to realize that there exists an original website with superior products or services. Legal disputes can take ages to conclude but what does one do when a replica has caused damage to your brand, as a way of damage control?

It's really hard to try and do damage control after the fact. The best thing would be to make sure that you do your homework before hand. A reputation is hard to put back together once it's shattered. Especially online.

The thing here is more of what a person can do to ensure that there are no imitations to your website and/or product or service. Is there a mechanism that a person can use to get notified when there are red flags, say when someone tries to do a cheaper replica?

I'm assuming you mean that if you own the trademark or copyright to something and someone is selling a knock-off of that? Like NFL gear?

About the only thing you can do for damage control is to make it publicly known that a law suit is taking place.

Isn't that counter productive? Why would you want to make it publicly known rather than try to keep it quiet while fixing the problem or at least give yourself time to come up with a solution to the problem?
