Is .CO.IN making a comeback?

Recently GoDaddy launched a small business website promotion which involves MS Dhoni as a "underworld don" or Bhai which is quite funny...however these ads feature small businesses registering CO.IN domains and creating websites on them very prominently....

Then there is the new series of cool ads by Raymond featuring a CO.IN site hosted at tailoryourstyle.co.in although booked both names on the same date in Dec.

What is behind this trend...or is this sort of a one off ?

.Co.In or Just .In
.In vs .Co.In – The Big Debate!

Yeah am curious what made GoDaddy go with .co.in for their initial India wide campaign with Dhoni. There is a clear reason, in their minds. If its making a comeback, will wait and see..But definitely there should be an uptick in .co.in registrations if the campaign rolls out as promised

They are running the ad quite a bit, saw them on a regional Indian channel here in the US yesterday - every movie break, it was on. I will be surprised if registrations aren't up in a few months

We have seen what cheap registrations have done in other extensions and more registrations are not going to result in more sales.
Don't se any benefits here, name recognition is with .in and that is not exactly causing waves in the domain markets.

Its about increasing awareness among small and mid size business in India. Thats what the ad is about. Not quite targetting domainers to pick up cheap registrations...very different

I think it's about flogging off a struggling extension cheaply and making supermarket style profits.
