Why does google does not use google.in, and uses google.co.in instead. I think .co.in is a bit less worthy extension than .in . And it is a bit surprise that even Google uses .co.in . Any specific reasons?

Google registered Google.co.in before .in was even available.

A lot of companies prefer .co.in.

I don't think it would be a big deal for Google to change the domain from .co.in to .in . And in my view .in looks much better than .co.in. They do redirect .in to .co.in and they can do vice-versa too.

I agree, Google can easily redirect fron .co.in to .in. As .co.in is older, so .in is not much popular comparatively. This may be the reason why big names are still using .co.in.

They could change it, but once you're established it really doesn't matter if you change it or not. People will know to go to .co.in rather than .in . And as for redirecting, they already have .in forwarded, so I don't see the point in changing.

I think Google does it because it is popular in many countries of the world. "google.co.*", where * signifies the country specific name, looks more generic.
