Stop the [New gTLD] Bleeding Now

Here is why I feel it’s just better to stop the bleeding now:
  • PRICE: The price of the .car and .cars URLs are ridiculous. Even at a discount, if you are lucky enough to have one, the domain is not worth what is being charged for registrations and especially yearly renewals and this has likely resulted in many drops and will continue to result in drops if this is not done away with eventually.
  • ROI: No one is using the domain names and I continue to see lack-luster results as far as future potential. I like my investments to mature within a reasonable amount of time, say 5 to 10 years – tops, not fifty years, which is what this is beginning to look like for these new URLs...

After a few years, the realization is coming together as to the use of these new gtlds and limitations. You need great demand, excellent execution and right pricing, in short a home run to make it work, atleast to stay relevant and compete with cctlds and .com . Add to that, you get zero free advertising or PR, whereas cctlds have plenty of that.

I followed .jobs which was released way before the glut of 1000+ tlds, absolutely poor execution by registry and followed by lack of demand in the marketplace, essentially made it non existent.

Exactly. No new registry has done it properly.

.jobs only opened registration up recently to my understanding. It used to be only for HR in companies. Expensive renewal @ 100+ a year.

Did you ever consider buying .jobs names for your job sites Suresh?

I looked at it for defensive registrations possibly, but their rules were very strict and highly limiting. It just didn't make sense, because the market was already using keywordjobs.com and keywordjob.com for about 15 yrs.

I agree. The market is pretty much keyword jobs .com names. I see some nice sites on .org and ccTLDs. I'll see .net domains once in awhile.

My preference is typically always plural "jobs" instead of just "job". Since people are looking for multiple job listings and that is usually what someone types in "such such jobs" into search engines.

When you are appealing to HR departments and a wide audience your best bet for job sites is using a .com.
