Copying and pasting

I have had a look at most websites and elements like the Terms of Use and Privacy Statement almost look the same.

I tend to think that most businesses merely copy this from other websites and replicate this on their websites.

There's need to ensure that everything on the website goes hand in hand with the scope and purpose of the business.
 
I agree that if you are just going to copy and paste, make sure you are using a website that has the same business purpose of you site. Otherwise you will include language you do not need and more importantly, miss language that you do need. You may also want to reword some of it so that it is not obvious that you copied and pasted. :D
 
I've seen some pretty hilarious results from copy/paste rush jobs. The terms will mention drugs or guns, when the site is about child care, or it will discuss dating and photos, when the site is centered around pets. It's like the website owner realized they needed terms and conditions at the last second and just threw it in.

That is the problem with businesses that just rush through an idea, without giving much thought to all the nitty gritties. It would look bad (to any website visitor) if some words are misplaced or there are phrases in there that are in no way, related to the nature of the business.

I totally agree with you @JackD. I always tell myself that if I have to copy anything into my website, then this would have to be as a measure of last resort!

Exactly my point @JackD. We all agree that at times, it isn't easy to write some things from scratch so even when replication is being done, care has to be taken to ensure that everything remains relevant. There's nothing as bad as a prospective customer pointing out an error in the site.
