I believe that it is very important for a website owner to understand the importance of Google rankings. What's the difference between the site's search result ranking and the PageRank?

The position of a site on search results is affected by the user's location and search history, not just the site's SEO. Page Rank has been a bit questionable since Google have been toying with dropping it since 2014. It used to focus just on the site's content, not the user veiwing it.

There are some details on it from techrepublic from 2013.

Thanks for that informative reply. I didn't know the difference until you explained it. I always assumed that it was more or less the same thing. It's great to know. I wonder if Page Rank still holds any value now that we're almost in 2017?

Mallard, that is a very informative article. I had never thought of what actually happens behind the scenes. That's a good way to look at it Dusart. I'm curious to know if SEO and page ranking are still going to be big topics in 2017.

The search results, I always thought, was dependent on the wording you use. You can be searching for something specific, like a car, but if you use a general term like automobile, you may not find what you want on page one.

In order to raise a website or blog's google rank, it's all about being consistent with the various ways of keeping your website or blog active online, ensuring that the best of quality contents are published on it since content is king when it comes to getting high pagerank on search engines.

Once Google ranks you high for great search result potential. automatically, all other search engines will rank your pages high. If you are not sure of the right ways to get ranked on search engines, consultancy services are available everywhere online.

I think branding and reputation seems to be the only option. By branding I meant doing something beyond SEO. And with reputation I meant you have to do things which helps you gain backlinks. That is what I have found out most of the time. Many sites try branding and reputation instead of SEO and to some extent that is what helps for the website.

Page rank is of no importance as it's now secret and only Google knows it's value. However, tough, in its place, people have been looking to metrics like DA, PA, and Moz Rank. Also, some people are looking at stuff like the trust rank given by Majestic.com.
