You Tube Channels

Is it unheard of to sell a You Tube channel? Is it even against the Terms and Conditions of You Tube? People sell a lot of things online, I was just wondering if this is one of them.

I have never heard of anyone selling a YouTube channel before but then again if this was possible, I guess YouTube would have to be notified. I wouldn't buying a channel with a decent monthly income.

I have never heard of that happening either, but I wouldn't put it past internet marketers to come up with a way to profit from selling youtube channels. I can see how someone might want to buy one if it is very popular and has thousands of subscribers.

Actually if you conduct a quick search on Google for 'Youtube channel for sale' you will find that there is a thriving market where you can buy, sell or trade your Youtube channels.

I agree with Kaitlin that this is very possible. Building a YouTube channel (from scratch) isn't easy and so it makes sense when someone considers purchasing one.

Isn't this a bit like making a website from scratch, getting viewership, advertising, etc,,, and then selling it? With You Tube basically being the hosting service?

It kind of is the same as that, Connected. I don't see anything wrong with it, and in fact it looks like it may even be a thriving business if one were to start doing that.

You can sell a youtube channel. It certainly used to be against the T&Cs, but there is nothing to stop someone adding a new account as an admin, and then removing themselves. Other people set the channel up through a business with a business google account that owns the youtube channel and then sell the business, which is legal.

Mallard, in this case does YouTube have to be involved by any chance? Aside from this, I'd like to understand how YouTube actually pays, based on viewership. Is it that when you reach a certain number of views, the pay becomes constant?

Youtube is not involved when people sell a company, because all the login details stay the same (and technically so does the owner since the owning company doesn't change). From what I know, youtube doesn't pay based on viewership, it pays based on advertising, much like adsense. People with more viewers just get more adviews and clicks.

I thought that Youtube paid you for every like one thousand views or something like that. Was I wrong? I don't currently use them but I was hoping to start video marketing in the future.

That makes sense. And I don't see how You Tube could lose anything, because the channel is still up and going. Great answers all, thanks for sharing them.

Yes it does pay per thousand views, and the payment rate depends on type of ads and products displayed on your videos, if you manage to get sufficient number of subscribers and enough views , then surely you be able to make some good money from youtube, but i must tell you its not gonna be easy, everyday millions of videos are uploaded to youtube and the probability of your videos showing up at the top of the search results is very low. I m not discouraging you, but trying to explain the fact but still if have any new idea that is creative idea that can attract viewers then you must go ahead with your channel.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the clarification Prasanna Kumar. It makes total sense that it would be really hard to get your video to the top of the search engine rankings seeing as the competition is so fierce.

Yeah, for the most part, your youtube channel is pretty much free property for yourself, it only takes a username and password login to acquire a youtube channel, therefore, those credentials can be sold elsewhere.

This sort of sums it up. My question is if you have say 1,000,000 views on YouTube, do you continue to get paid every so often or the likes have to keep going up? I say this because if I was say at this number of views and I was earning decent income, then there wouldn't be any point in trying to sell it.

Likes and dislikes have nothing to do with you earning from youtube, like i have already mentioned in the message before, your youtube revenue revenue entirely based on the CPM, you get paid per thousand views. You get paid as long as the ads are played on your video and no matter what number of views you have got youtube pays you , so if you have a videos with 1,000,000 views , then you will be a rich man very soon.

This confuses me at times. By CPM, do you mean clicks per minute? In this sense, does YouTube approach a channel that has a lot of views to get ads running on them? This is making really think along the lines of starting a channel soon.

@marsh : Its not Click Per Minute. CPM stands for Cost Per Mille (also known as Cost Per Thousand views) . CPM is a cost to pay by the advertiser for every time the ad is display on the YouTube video. YouTube rewards for every thousand ad views (that's the catch, viewer has to view the ad as well)
