Indian government- PLEASE can you be more PROACTIVE! We need investment!!

IT.com
Whilst other countries around the world are pledging BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars on decreasing the digital divide between its citizens and implementing digital penetration to every corner of their respective countries, INDIA decides to do absolutely NOTHING.

In todays budget overview, INDIA decided to not even mention any funding towards even ONE SINGLE digital initiative or project!

25-30 YEARS BEHIND!!!! The stories just get worse and worse! We are going to have to be prepared to hold onto our investments for a VERY VERY long time guys if we are to see any sort of growth and return! Such a sad state of affairs when the government seem to be so laid back and not bothered to move India into the future!!

BRAZIL is a FORWARD thinking country, making quick and clear reformed policies to help drive it into the future, whilst the Indian government sit around all day drinking chai and thinking of ways of how to swindle money away from the country and into the back pockets of it's politicians!! What a joke! COME ON INDIA!! WAKE UP!! And lets DEMAND decent policy changes!!!

Brazil announces tax breaks

Why only 3% of India has home internet access – Quartz

This is exactly the type of thing that disappoints me about the Indian government, our politicians are just a bunch of ageing old idiots whom have absolutely no idea of how to spend their budget and bring India into the WORLD NEW DIGITAL ECONOMY. Such a shame as India has so much potential, but we are going to be left in the dark ages! :-(

I know that nothing is going to change anytime sooner, and best thing is we shouldnt expect anything from goverment, just work on development, whatever goverment does would be bonus thats all...

You need to develop your .in domains big and hard and then nothings going to stop you from earning good. i really dont expect a six figure sale for .in name ( from atleast an indian company or an indian domainer ) . The to mentality is not going to change anytime sooner.

Best best for your .in names is to develop, there you have chances of earning six figure in few years, rather than expecting six figure domain sale.

I have my .in domains making me $50, $100, $200 to $400 / month with hardly any effort, once i have my sites as big as 200 + pages i may reach $1k/month just via adsense. I know few of my friends who are making 6 figure yearly with there .in names.

So you need to value your .in names via development rather than just the domain sale. i feel domains which are getting sold for few hundred's are best buy for the buyer and worst for the seller.

This things only you can know once you develop and earn.. One way goverment is doing favour for guys like me ;-) people are selling there .in names for peanuts and guys like me buy them develop them and earn, rather than others who are just holding and expecting 1000's ;-)...

Do you do JV's?

I'd be interested in developing mini site for few of my domains.

@getaddicted....YES YOU ARE CORRECT my friend! We must DEVELOP to increase the potential of our investments or else we will just end up sitting on worthless names! The GAME has TOTALLY changed with hundreds of new extensions coming onto the market place and also with the government doing pretty much NOTHING to increase awareness of the net in India, it us and other domain name holders whom MUST BE PROACTIVE and lead the pack in DEVELOPMENT of quality .IN names!! Thanks for supporting my cause my friend.

India is one of the top 5 leading economies of the world, but NOT for long. The DIGITAL RACE has started and India is lagging behind by roughly 20 YEARS!

THERE ARE 113 countries in the world that have better average internet speeds than India!! The Indian government are EXTREMELY BAD at making decisions when it comes to infrastructure! Read the article below:

Yes, I have stopped thinking about goverment or anything i just dont have any hope, We need to find ourself the perfect path rather than depending.

Onething we need to remember, just the domain alone may have a value after 10 years, but im not sure about the value will increase or decrease just coz of so many extensions comming and the mentality of people.

But with my developed domain will surely earn me good money not just after 10 years.. but from day one also and the value will rise and rise.....

The fact is im not even concentrating on my .in portfolio as im busy developing with my .com, .net domains which are purely targeted to USA market. Im planning to get going with my .in domains after a 1 year or 2..

But i just developed around 20 odd names for a test last year and they are making me sweet money, but im not thinking much as i know if search for domains after 2 years... im going to find so many cheap deals and also many quality domains i see them as available which can easily make $10 to $100 / month earning machines minimum.

It only indicates one thing to all you guys here, who think that i have 100 domains and i dont have time to develop, or they dont know designing or whatever reason.

Just remember you need to give it a start as you have hell of a time to get going and surely you can make money.

Im sure many domainers who are here will get out of domaining after 3 to 5 years, and many big domainers will only keep premium names other would get expired.. and with so many extensions lining up things are going to get complicated and 100's and 1000's of domainers are going to burn there pockets.

I see so many here and in other forums, registering ridiculous domains, and expecting 100's and 1000 of $$$.. Everyone is going to get killed, but new people come daily they will buy all this names daily and will end up burning pockets.

Every new domainer thinks he is going to make money without any knowledge. everyone here has to get knowledge, learn things and im sure you will make money but you have to have lot of patience... I made my first $$ with domaining after 1.5 years..

Good luck to all, just feel sad for all new domainers they are just wasting time, losing money.. MOST OF THEM....

There will be more investment in the internet industry only when investors interests are well protected and earn a reasonable return on their investments. If credit is not given where it is due, why will any one spend his or her time and money online, they will move elsewhere where the same time and money is valued and respected.
Despite investing so much, I am finding it difficult to get a basic ISP connection, my websites and blogs are modified/changed without my knowledge.

Even the United Nations is moving forward to incorporate global quality BROADBAND provision into its agendas! What the HELL is the Indian Government doing to help move India into the new DIGITAL ECONOMY?! NOTHING! NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Even the Aakash tablet project was a failure! Why did they choose such an outdated and low quality product? And a small time business with ABSOLUTELY NO experience to create their product?! Crazy INDIAN POLITICIANS are always thinking about their own cash flows and NEVER the needs of their citizens! Always looking for bargain deals even at the highest levels in their projects, which is why India is still regarded as an incredibly disappointing country when it comes to QUALITY and DECENT INFRASTRUCTURE for its citizens.

What sorts of quality infrastructure do we have in INDIA? In the so called "3rd or 4th" largest economy in the world? For the 2nd largest population in the world. What do we have? Take a look at other developing countries such as China, Brazil and even Russia! Their politicians and governments are creating and investing in ABSOLUTELY ENORMOUS infrastructure projects which are HIGHLY REGULATED for QUALITY and still move very rapidly at the same time too! Look at China and what it has accomplished in just 15 years? Look at its roads, its electricity and energy provision, its public facilities, its hygiene levels, and most of all its DIGITAL ECONOMY! Yet 30 years ago, it was a country in the 'dark ages' compared to India! WHY have we been LEFT BEHIND?

Policies in India take 10s of years to implement and even then, when the actual project does start running, the quality of the projects in India is so far behind the rest of the world because EVERYONE including the government is ALWAYS looking for cheap budget bargains! And using very low quality materials/services. It will take INDIA another 20 years to even come close to having a decent digital infrastructure to compete with the rest of the world, by which time they would have moved another 50 years further ahead of us. Take the example of the recent news in construction, whilst the rest of the world have advanced incredibly in regards to building infrastructure, e.g. Shanghai, Beijing, Rio, Dubai ect.........building AMAZING new beautiful and mind blowing SOLID new buildings for the future, we in Mumbai have just recently experienced a whole building just collapse to the ground and killing 74 people because of the use of bad building materials! CRAZY! INDIA is STILL in the medieval times, it is STILL 100 years backwards in the way in which it "THINKS" about things. It is NOT a "FORWARD THINKING" country and this is largely due to the "BACKWARDS POLICIES" of the Indian government. They really do need to start acting fast and making RAPID changes in EDUCATION, DIGITIZATION & GENERAL INFRASTRUCTURE. They need to spend more of their money on these things, rather than on nuclear weapons!!

Anyway, we should think about starting a national e-petition aimed at the government in responding to URGENT digital needs of its citizens in specific regards to implementing policies that are needed NOW to improve broadband infrastructure in the country and educate the population in the much needed area of digital literacy to engage Indian citizens to become part of the GLOBAL digital economy!

UN urged to make broadband a post-2015 development focus

@ Trukumar..

Nothing is going to change, if we make an e-petition still it wont create any revolution.

Indian industry is not going to change sooner, its surely going to take ages. But not everything. What i mean is if goverment makes internet available to every corner in india, and say everyone is using internet, would be great but many things wont change.

Its not just goverment but its we people. You tell me how much things you buy online and how many things you go and buy from direct shop's. That mentality wont change for ages. We tend to try things see them and then buy.

Say for example, you are going to buy a Perfume which costs say Rs 2000 or more... Will you buy that online, or first you want how the perfume smells and then you will. Secondly if you know the smell and have used it before still will you buy that online ? .. You will first see the price if you get it same price in a shop you know, you will go buy from there. 100's of factors come into play..

What we are talking about here is Internet revolution, i dont think it happens any time sooner, but suppose it happens just want to think ahead of that, how will people treat things online, if there are 10 websites online selling a product you will have 100 more similar sites which are fraud or dont provide the service what is required.

I have been developing websites and what i see better for domainers is making websites which are informative has all the information of that product or whatever it is. As people tend to search so much this days, if a Doctors says you got "XYZ" disease, next thing you will do is come home and search 10 pages looking what that term means, how to cure, and so many things.. So if you have a site providing all info you it. now you need to work on how to make money from that.

Selling mobile phones, electronics, health care, body care all this sites i dont see there good future, ya i may be wrong or they might do good selling, but in future lots of things will surely change.

If you are developing yours websites, you really need to think as a long run, when your website if popular you will make big time money and once your idea is copied and used by 100's then everything starts falling.

What my point here is, you guys think if you have internet all over in india, how people will use that mainly for. This are the things keep me thinking..

@getaddicted......YES we can create a revolution IF enough of the population at large start an e-petition to the government who will then HAVE TO LISTEN to us!

You say that these obstacles are all due to the general MINDSET of Indian citizens and there will not be any massive surge towards digitisation of commerce for a long long time in India. I feel that your theory is correct to a certain degree, yet the MINDSET of the INDIANS can be CHANGED but only if the government start making MASSIVE changes to their policies!

The MINDSET of indians can be changed THROUGH EDUCATION. Teaching the youth about DIGITAL LITERACY and how to use the enormous potential of the web to CONNECT to the REST of the OUTSIDE WORLD.

Also, major infrastructure projects on broadband connections around India would help the schools and colleges teach the youth to empower THEMSELVES to start creating a NEW DIGITAL INDIA!

But of course, this will probably not happen for another 10 years, as the current government only seems to care about nuclear warfare, political votes, sometimes twisted religious ideologies, their own personal bank accounts and of course BEING LAZY!
