As we all know Registration for new gTLD's started..
so any one from inforum Going To apply for a New gTLD??
;) Cost is Now 47000$ for registration of it..
I Think It is Not very hard to recover after approval of a gTLD..

I am talking My friends to approve for it.. ;)

Let me apply for .bankrupt as many businesses need it sometime in their life!
...
It's not just 47k but a lot of advertising and convincing power is required to make aTLD successful..see the .CO. and still you can't be sure that you will be successful!

Assuming your string doesn't have any competition, you're looking at a $500k startup.

Just ICANN fees are $5k+$185k, where do you get the $47k figure from?

Unless your company is worth $100mm+ aiming for a $1Bn valuation, I'd recommend you stay out of this game.

Apply for financial assistance

The Internet is a global resource, and the diversity, competition and innovation made possible by the new gTLD Program should provide an inclusive opportunity for all to participate. This part of the Applicant Support Program will allow a limited number of qualifying applicants the opportunity to pay a reduced evaluation fee of US $47,000 instead of the full evaluation fee of US $185,000.

In order to qualify for the fee reduction, applicants must demonstrate financial need, provide a public interest benefit, and possess the necessary management and financial capabilities.

If you are seeking fee reduction and have questions about the financial assistance available, please contact newgTLD@icann.org.

why dont you try your luck too?? ;)

Yes.. sure so many expanses are there.. website development , servers, security, office, payment gateway, Tax n so on...
But In some time It become self promotional when you release it.
You will get your wikipedia article , ICANN listing, Promotions by registrars, domainers , and all register domains.. :p

I Think Iff you can sell about 20k domains then all money will be recovered.(I guess)

I am hearing about .com's for about 15 years now. If .info gTLD can fail 99% of the new vanity gTLD's will stay dormant meaning DNS resolves but no visitors except you are someone like store.amazon search.google and buy.ebay, I've put .info in focus because, information is what we seek at a very basic level as human beings. Info is first. If you have to eat you have to have the information like Location, Quality and Basic Information about your Food; Otherwise you will not eat 99.99% of the time(unless Mom, Wife or someone shove in a milk bottle inside the mouth, dependency is what we dread as adults and wish to keep it in check, if this is how we think then gTLD is a risk that is not worth taking)

If we as people can collectively fail the .info extn we can and will mostly fail anything else that comes by. If .info was the first commercial gTLD available to public before .com, we would have miserably failed .com and will probably riding the .info bandwagon. We follow some universal behavioral patterns that cannot be overwritten(unless we can override them like in a sci-fi movie) and you ask anyone in this world who uses internet to check email about domain names, most of them will say .COM is the best. So what I am saying is not a Hypothesis but a Fact.

These fancy gTLD's are just Fancy in my opinion and will remain so in foreseeable future. So I will not be investing in it. If you ask me if I have ever dreamed about having a fancy gTLD myself? Yes I did and the gTLD in question was .domain as in nandas.domain LoL. I have limited this to dreams only.

Thanks,
Nanda.
PS: BTW if you are wondering why I said what I said, I used to have a .info portfolio that is 2nd to none. I have great love and respect for this extension. All we can do is work and work hard, fate is always decided by PEOPLE at LARGE. We are not in control, this vanity gTLD thing is luxury that I don't need.

.info have 74lac registerd domains...

Is it realy failed??

I think so not because of numbers but because of lack of use, they are under used, they are under appreciated. This hurts me that's why I said that. We don't see many .info sites that are authority sites do we?

It is like our domain portfolios, we dream on our domains and million ideas related to them, but in all reality 95% never materialize and 90% of those that do materialize don't workout well. It is a game and there will always be top 100(They exist irrespective of best/worst/neutral as a matter of choice but of no importance). More Choices can be overwhelming and harmful. We are going in a wrong direction, we have enough choices already and additions must be made for exceptional causes or for new needs that may exist in future. This is my opinion.

All in all point I am trying to make is there are and will be certain things and situations in life, where we can consciously take a decision with confidence and stay out of trouble 100% of the time. This vanity/fancy gTLD is one of those things only good for special case, rich and famous. If I ever gift someone with a gTLD of their own for whatever reason, the person on the receiving end will be dumb founded without knowing a thing about what to do with it. Give him a .com or .in he will at least try to think and use it.

Even if I can afford it, I wouldn't buy a gTLD for myself, instead I will have good time with friends and family in Lake St Clair in a Yacht :) I will go fishing!

Have fun,
Nanda.

I myself wont be interested in buying gTLD domains, I feel its going to mess things up. And people who are new to domainers will be affected most, coz they are going to buy those names for sure and then will try to sell for Millions.....

The more extensions going to come, the more its going to get complicated.

You need to think and buy, If you are goin to develop all your names and you are a developer then, .in, co.in, .com, .net , .org are the best ones... Yes other country extensions really do well like .co.uk, .ca and so on.......

If you are a domainer who just flip domains for them it may make some money,

But at the end everyone going to develop this names and it will be tough to get them ranked. Once you have a fancy gTLD, you either will make a site and advertise or try to rank which wont be easy. Also Normal Internet User should remember and have knowledge about all this extensions.

I just feel its going to get complicated.....

hi,
More Application have been received for new gtld some where around 890 application have been received.

Its Looking very bad idea For applying..
Many gTLDs are faild .museums, .travel , .pro, .jobs ..

I guess so money free extractions also coming if the applications get approved,
.free :p

Read your own quote. "In order to qualify for the fee reduction, applicants must demonstrate financial need, provide a public interest benefit, and possess the necessary management and financial capabilities."

Necessary management and financial capabilities themselves account for $10 million in annual turnover.

Plus 'public interest benefit' doesn't include lining the pockets of a commercial entity, which is why 'luck' will get you nowhere fast in this particular opportunity.

Do you guys agree with the notion that the real threat to .in with the new TLD's is possibly if someone registers .india ?

I'm not sure that this is permitted under the ICANN rules. I'd also think the shortness of .in would beat a lengthier TLD.
