Goncalves became the first domain thief in history

IT.com
Good news for US domain owners chasing after US based domain thieves, but still does not let one sleep easy.

More often than not, stolen domains wind up under the control from someone not in the US and often times in a jurisdiction where the law is very 'backwater', to say the least.

Also, it is worth mentioning here that the people who had their domain stolen were well connected to law enforcement and able to 'make calls' to get the attention of prosecutors and investigators. None of us would have that available to us.

Good to know that there's now a backbone of caselaw for US domain thieves, but does me no good if my domain winds up under the control of an Egyptian.
