Is it counted as Piracy ?

IT.com
Few days back we came across a Google website in India which have extensive Hindi /Tamil Movie songs collections :

Google Music

Now We failed to understand that this is Piracy or NOT ?

On details investigation we came to know that Google is taking all this content from one USA based site called saavn.com (registered with Godaddy.com and whois protected) ?

Anybody know how same is possbile ?

It should be counted as piracy, I doubt they have a PPL from all the movie companies whose songs they're hosting.

And Google should be pulled up for 'linking to copyright material', just like the websites being seized by Homeland Security in the US.

Basically these guys are getting rich off stolen IP, including Google, wonder which company will be first to sue these guys for infringement. If I'm not mistaken saavn.com is owned by ibibo.com, at least the google ads being shown on the google popup have the same code as ibibo.

This is not Piracy. Its a collection of movie songs which were taken from the movies. They haven't created them. The movie songs and clips are getting repeated in lots of sites. If you have created some thing new and some one will copy it then it will be piracy. The pictures used in the web sites are also getting repeated. They are available to free download also. So, this is not piracy.

No we inquired about the same and we are advised by our attorney that the same is required a Public Performance License for Internet Which cost approx USD 1500 per year.

Once you have License then you can run online streaming of songs (No Download).

Please elaborate how to obtain this license and any other details/ findings.

This is a very interesting case :)

Of course google is the biggest pirate on the net! Who else could publish books, movies and music etc. and get away with it.

Even the big guns are taken to the cleaners once in a while !

however this case is not in the same league, google has just made a directory base of the songs,

links are just description of the songs/movie,
Listen to thousands of full songs from our partners in.com, saavn and saregama.

all songs have to be listened on other website, who appear to be large and popular sites in themselves, and should have some sort of legit about the content,
appears fair game imo,
