Should We Move to VBulletin?

Hi All

Quite a few members have asked recently whether we'd consider moving to VBulletin.

We certainly would, and theres a import script available: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_smf

Do you think this would be a good idea?

Do any of you have a strong perference for either VBulletin or Simple Machines?

Thanks

Steve

I like this one. Unless there is a problem with the number of members it can hold, I vote for this one. It will make Inforum.in unique.
Either way, it won't be a problem. Whatever will help Inforum.in grow with ease, is what we should use. My 2 cents.

Frank ;D

I prefer this Simple Machines, but I will also be happy with vBulletin if it is preferred by more users.

+1 for vB. It'd attract more people from other similar boards imho. I don't like look n feel of this board. Can I at least get an option to change themes :p ?

Agreed - we should be transferring in the next couple of weeks.

SMF is a real pain with SEO also, so we'll be looking to move as soon as possible.

We probably won't add any new features to this installation and just concentrate on moving it to VBulletin.

Hi All

Thanks for the feedback - we took the majority opinion and upped and moved to VBulletin.

This was done for two reasons:

1) People found the Simple Machine Forum layout to be too cramped
2) The site was having SEO problems that we thought could be overcome by moving to VBulletin.

Hopefully you find it to be a worthwhile upgrade :)

This feels a lot better !!

Just a minor glitch in the settings though, all the emails that I receive from the forum have an extra slash ('/').

Thanks

Hi Lifofifo

Many thanks for spotting that.

The software I work with in my day job always needs the / on the end to make it work properly .... force of habit I guess :)

Hi All

You may also notice some design changes starting today.

As always, your feedback is very welcome

Steve

Wow! Striking design. Looks good.

Edit: I will suggest that the panel to the left of the forum (with partners $ affiliates, etc.) seems like a bit of wasted space. The actual forums and threads seemed condensed.

Thanks Nameluxe

Interesting feedback - the thinking behind the panel was that I was hoping to utilize it for some interesting extra features on the site. Maybe of list of recently sold domains, maybe a portfolio feature (similar to domainstate.com)...

Any ideas are welcome...

NamePros only have the column on the frontpage. That might be a way to go...

Actually, now that there is something in the space, it's not so bad. It was simply blank when I was viewing it earlier.

I like the look a lot.

Edit: nevermind. Found it.

Hi Nameluxe

The logout button - you're right ... it is too hidden, tucked away at the bottom of the site. I'll see what I can do about that.

Hi Frank

Thanks for the kind words.

We've already got more love from the Googlebot in 3/4 days than we did in 3/4 weeks with Simple Machines.

Steve

You're right, but its not right, if you know what I mean :)

I'll see if I can move it to every page.

Just another thing that I noticed...when you are trying to reset the passcode for your account:

A) The link color is the same as the normal text
B) Only "here" is a link. You should have "click here" as a link for ease of use.

Thanks JRB - very useful feedback

I've made sure all links are now underlined. I noticed that even in ordinary posts, the links were a little unclear.

Hopefully navigation on the site is a little more intuitive now.
