Recently during mitsu promotion, I bought number of .in domains. I am holding onto them with annual renewal assuming that in next 5-10 years .in cctld will have great appreciation. Am I the only one to believe so or there are others who agree with me or disagree with me?

Please show me your reasoning for your belief.

I have few strong reasons as mentioned here.

1. .in is very catchy extension.
2. Growth of internet has just started and is going to continue
3. Only very minimal segment of population is currently accessing net which is going to change drastically in next few years.
4. With more open government policy, more and more international compnaies are coming to india.
5. English is widely spoken and accepted in India.

Let me know what you think,

thanks,

When it comes to businesses (providing products or services) catering to, by and large, the needs of the Indian market, definitely the .in extension will definitely matter in the years to come.

There are many more reasons. May be the following link with a wealth of information, substantiates your reasons 2 and 3 :)

Pretty interesting. thanks for the link to the article. The beauty is, inspite of being no. 4 only 81 million are connected i.e. more room to grow. Our population is more than 1000 million now, so there is tremendous scope and I believe lot will change for better in next 10 years.

Strategy depends on your investment type: flip, hold, use.

Well, so far I am holding. My minor attempts to sell have failed. I am not a good marketer. But I hope that domains I have will appreciate some day; otherwise I think I would still cover the cost of registration.

I believe Selling Domains is going to be and will be a huge learning process, especially for those who are not full-time professional domainers.

There is nothing wrong in those who originally registered a Domain expecting good returns from selling them. The same not withstanding, what one shouldn't forget is that there is always considerable gap between the 'Perceived Value' of domains from the perspective of the buyer and seller.

Added to this, by and large, buyers will consider paying well only if a reasonable time has passed since the domain was originally registered. Even in this forum (apart from the ones I have seen elsewhere), you could have noticed buyers asking for domains registered 4 or 5 years back.

May I humbly suggest that you should look way beyond just recovering the cost of registration. A year's registration just costing the price of 2 or 3 people enjoying a movie in a multiplex with snacks, it is worth to learn the tricks of the trade and leave a trail in the Indian domain industry.

I wouldn't be surprised if few or some of them in this forum and similar forums in India are going to the pioneers of .in domains who not only made a killing but also left a blazing trail in 7 - 10 years down the line :)

Except for maybe LLL.in, I'm not sure .in is a good extension for flipping, especially in the current economic environment.

No doubt in my mind. Make a BIN enquiry to some of the .in domains available on sedo. From registering these domains for a few bucks to selling them for several thousands (or at least attempting to)....pretty impressive.

Domain investing is pretty simple - get in the early and hold. The man who gets in early has the higest roi.
