What do you think are the potential of domain names with hyphens (of course, without them would be preferable).

Do domain names with hyphens get reasonable type in traffic?

Thanks.

no..they generally do not get a lot of type in traffic..you can use it if you want to build a site or something..but type in traffic will be hard to get..

Some hyphens are ok - e-commerce.in is a decent domain IMHO.

Generally for .in though I'd avoid a hypen.

For .com, if the term is very valuable, a hyphenated .com can still be valuable too, although it's worth significantly less than the unhyphenated version.

If you are going to develop the domain, a lot will depend on your business model. If the domain is just an SEO play, a hyphen is probably fine. If it's a site where some branding / authority is important, avoid hyphens.

Interesting chart Ross. Do you have an article or something that explains how you developed the chart?

from what i have bought and sold over the last couple years and from my mini sites and parked pages hyphens are not worth it. of course there are the ones that brake that rule.

yes..there have been some in the past which have broken the rule..but, on a general basis, it is advisable to have a domain without a hyphen..

From another forum it seems that German prefer to register domain names with hyphen. This can be explained by the synthetic nature of the language that make it difficult to disambiguate without the hyphen.
