How to Approach an End User?

IT.com
Elliot Silver has done a blog post with a sample email:

Simple Sample Email to an End User | Elliot's Blog

Email for a CityAttorney.com domain name I purchased on Snapnames for $99 (the name was sold)
My company owns XXXXXXXXAttorney.com, and I would like to know if you would have an interest in buying it. Owning a strong keyword domain name can help you rank higher in search engines for the term, and I believe this is an important term to own.

The price for this domain name is just $400, and it is registered at Moniker.com, a domain registrar located in Florida.

I am sending this offer to several attorneys in XXXXXXX, and the first to reply will have the opportunity to buy the domain name. I found your contact information via Google, and this is a one time individual email.

I've never actually done a cold call to an end user, but I thought that Morgan's post here was very well done:

Me: Hello, I’m looking for someone from your web marketing team.

Company X: Sure, let me transfer you.

Me: Thank you very much.

*Ring* *Ring*

Web Marketing Dept: Hello this is [Name]

Me: Hi this is Morgan from Linton Investments I’m looking for the person responsible for your Google Advertising

Web Marketing Dept: Sure, that’s [Name] – let me transfer you to him

Google Ad Specialist: Hello this is [Name], how can I help you?

Me: Hi, my name is Morgan and I work for a domain name investment company in California. I have a domain name very closely-related to your business that I thought you might be interested in.

Google Ad Specialist: Okay, what’s the name?

Me: The domain is [Domain Name] and it is currently ranked #3 in Google for [Keywords] which I noticed are keyword you are paying to advertise for.

Google Ad Specialist: We do advertise for those keywords but we have a pretty limited ad budget.

Me: I completely understand – I have a number of other companies that I’m contacting but I really thought this would be the best fit for your business. I’ve done some quick analysis of how much I think you could save this year on marketing costs just by owning this domain, can I send it over to you?

Google Ad Specialist: Well we’re always looking for a way to save money so I’d be willing to have a look at it.

Me: Great – what is your email address? I’ll send this over and you can contact me if it looks interesting to you.

Google Ad Specialist: Okay, will do. My email address is [Email Address]. Thanks Morgan I’ll be looking for your email.

Me: No problem – have a great day.

This was so funny and appalling at the same time.

Sounds like a scam. Was the .cn even registered?

I regularly get similar emails saying that a "client" has applied to register the .cn equivalent of a domain I own, but as I own the .com, they were checking first to see if I would like to buy it.

I also get emails saying "hello". This mail informs that their website is giving free registration and many more advantages. This mail I received from china with .cn extension.

Hi...

End-user development is a research topic within the field of cs describing activities or techniques that allow end users to program computer.

People who are not professional developers can use EUD tools to create or modify software artifacts and complex data objects without significant knowledge of a programming skillshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programming_language.

Early attempts in End-user were centered around adding simple scripting programming languagehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programming_language to extend and adapt an existing application..

It seems very difficult to find the end user because most of the corporate do not want to go this route they just want a domain where they can put there information rest there net work and advertisement work. i do not see any much potential earning towards to owner of the popular domain names but domain names with website traffic still can work better.
To understand above one should understand the how Google and other search engine work ..
one Example :
sbi.in owned by some trader wh wan to sale it & statebankofindia.in owned by State Bank
statebankofindia.in is advertised, used into there day to day operation and have website.
Search engine is smart to understand how many birds fly here and how many quarry made for it ....whenever sbi.in comes with website it never take place in 1st row.

Excellent Articles for selling domains to end users.
I liked the article Dealing with Email Enquiries for Your Domains

There are many more articles related to selling your domains on the same site.

I offered one of my City dot coms to the biggest travel portal in India.

This is a tourist city with 1.63 million population and the highest literacy rate in India. 200 IT companies have presence there. It is famous for its beautiful temples with India's richest temple there. This is emerging as the "Medical Tourism" capital of India. This dot com ranks on the second page with my basic website.

Well the senior management just do not get it and they offered me 10 year domain renewable cost and a crappy Holiday package for that.

Well the funny thing is most of the people I have approached (including this clown) do not even ask the question "Why should they buy it or ask for any explanation".

Well i have decided to build it into a directory portal now and would not be pitching any more to any end users.

I would appreciate anyone, having similar tale, to share it here with the problems you faced?

I think that is pretty typical.

I recently had a domain in the form of "ProductDomain.co.uk" up for auction. I emailed many end users alerting them to the auction. The owner of "Product-Domain.co.uk" (same domain, with a hyphen) wrote back to me that he wasn't willing to pay more than £20 for the domain and I should re-start the auction at that price. The domain ended up selling to another domainer.

I've also approached a "City.org" about buying their "City.com" (in the US). No interest.

City.com's for major cities are valuable and are worth holding unless you really need the cash.

I think that pitching end users works best for .com domains in higly competitive markets (although travel is indeed a highly competitive market).
