India's Heavy Baggage

I see that Delhi like Chandigarh has banned the use of plastic bags.

Personally, I think it would be better if they charged for plastic bags instead of imposing a ban. If people are forced to pay for these plastic bags, I think you'd find less bags scattered on the streets and in the drains.

In some parts of Canada, supermarkets are doing this. The aim is to encourage shoppers to use reusable cloth bags and paper bags.

What do you think of the ban?

They've thrown around the idea of banning plastic bags, and charging for them around Perth, Australia. From what I've seen the issue hasn't really hung around long enough to have a permanent, effect except on a few stores. What seems to be working is that the cloth bags are becoming fashionable items and so have become something cool to use when shopping. Also, those insulated cloth bags do OK as they are quite practical.

Yes, I notice the cloth bags are also becoming fashionable in Canada. I own a few, but trust me the reason I use these bags is to carry my shopping, and not to make a fashion statement. :p

In Chandigarh people have not really got used to carrying cloth bags as yet, they still argue with the shopkeepers to provide some sort of carry bag. I think the administration will have to come up with more strict rules.
