Onscreen smoking ban has been lifted. Now the Indian actors can be shown smoking in the movies. The plea had been artistic freedom-well do you support the ban or you think it is fine if the actors are shown smoking?

I think that it is ridiculous that actors can not smoke in movies. The same has been in effect here in Thailand. What you will see is that they will blur out the cigarettes which makes it really annoying to watch the movie.

That blurring part is also funny, but in Indian movies the most of the smoking scenes used to be deleted. But now onwards there will be no such exemptions.

I think that actors play the roles and when they play the role of the smoker then they must smoke. But personally I am against this bad habit in the everyday life.

In my opinion, banning smoking scenes in films is not the answer. I think the answer lies with educating people even more about the dangers of smoking, and also teaching them not to be so easily influenced by others when it comes to smoking. However, I suppose all this is easier said than done.

I'm a non-smoker, but at the end of the day, I respect that everyone makes their own choices in life. That said, I was happy when here in Ottawa (Canada) they banned smoking in public places and workplaces as I don't enjoy being subjected to smoked-filled areas!

Hi Ceres,

I absolutely agree with you that smoking in the workplaces has been forbidden in many countries. In most bars and restaurants smoking is also not forbidden. I do think however that there should be the option of someone opening a bar for smokers for example.

Though I personally don't have any problem with smoking, but Govt. were trying to ban onscreen smoking because people follow movie stars blindly and ends up on the wrong side. Such movies should be encouraged which shows the ill effects of smoking.

This option has been provided in most of the clubs and restaurants in our city. There are separate smoker's zones, people can have a smoke over there without troubling others and without being disturbed.
