This crazy business.I have a few decent aged .co.in/ .in but this year has been quiet so far, little interest in the aged ones!I have sold two in the last two weeks. Neither was over a year old, total cost was $113 ( one I bought the other was a hand reg) sales value $2900!Not complaining at all but how do you work it out?

Congrats on the sales! I don't know what the answer to your question is though.

Answer #1: Randomness of demand- no one can predict when and how demand for domains will arrive, but if you have good names, the demand will eventually appear. because a domain is a hand reg and less than a year old doesn't mean random demand wont put up at anytime. And because a name is aged doesn't mean its time for selling has come. Answer #2: The power of believing! If you don't believe you cant win in .INs. trust me on that. its not easy to renew a domain name for 5 -8 years but if you believe and hold on and its a good name, you'll eventually sell it. profit is not even a question! Enjoy your sales and keep regging/buying good names. .INs will make you rich if you buy the right names and hold them.

A wise old sage!

I second that. Yesterday sold a two words .in domain bought for about $3 for $750 in four months. I'll reveal the name, if the buyer doesn't mind me revealing the sale.

Would you be able to reveal the names wot?

In my view it simply boils down to ..

Domain Investor
versus Domain Trader - or a hybrid approach:.

Several scenarios that I have come across in dot com's - just sharing:

a) I have held on to names so tight where my perceived value was far beyond the market determined value - and never ever ended up making a sale even being an "investor" and holding on for nearly 15 years (a softwarexxxxx dot com for example which I was certain a multi-billion dollar firm with the non abbreviated name would stop by and ask about (they never did after the initial 1000 USD or so via trade channels)

b) I successfully fended of a RDNJ attempt by a not so famous media firm - wanting another mediaxxxx dot com - yet never sold it - still own it after 17 years

c) While a not so "hot" name as I perceived it went for 1.5 Million USD during the hey days of dot com boom and I was surprised...even more surprised when this publicly listed firm sourced funds from a wealthy investor overseas to pay me.

Then a couple of years back started investing in dot in's for the long haul - and reserved names for 10 years at a time if perceived to be a good one. So far hundreds of inquiries (on mainly dot IN's and never sold one).

Still surprised at how many hand regs I am able to do daily of quality .IN names. Some thoughts on what .IN buyers are doing:

a) Given buyers see $100-$9999 range - they do not even care to offer any higher for terrific names
b) Start-ups get creative and find alternate "at cost domains" now a days (desi style)
c) The value of exact match (keyword) domains for ccltd search is unknown - so have not seen a great demand for these
d) Awaiting a few RDNJ attempts and INDRPs - with bated breath (LOL) - thwarted a few threats with strong responses

So my point is in case of .INs if you need the cash flow you should actively sell or look to sell (but NEVER a LINE.IN at that low figure that's tragic - LOL) - because another decade down the line this ccltd (IN) should be more valuable by OOM or 4-5X.

In cases where you own a domain a dot com owner would be needing to secure it badly (lynda.in for example) pricing it at a premium yet not out of the market, I guess is key.
