Investing in .co.in?

Hi Guys,

Wanted to find out how many people are still investing in .co.in domains and whether people see a decent future for the extension against .in? I think we can all agree that .in would be a company's first choice 90% of the time but does the size of India allow strong sale potential for .co.in to endusers as well?

Personally, I am still actively investing in .co.in, probably more so than .in at the moment due to the number of strong .co.in domains dropping compared to .in. To me, the sheer size and cyber growth potential of India, suggests that, although it may take a while, there will be a strong demand for
co.in in the future and therefore investment is exactly that, 'investment', not speculation.

Interested to hear others thoughts on it though...

Will :)

That's what I would think too, but I get pretty much equal offers from end users on .in and .co.in.

I agree 100%.

I share some of your enthusiasm for .co.in. It has potential in the future as an investment in India. But i have to say, only the best of the best .co.ins will give good returns. Most of my offers are on .in domains and i rarely get offers for my .co.in domains. my bottom line is that investing in .co.in can be profitable for those who have the best names, but if you dont have those top notch names, be ready to wait longer than .in investors.

Thanks for your input guys. I agree with you warbux, investing in anything other than a strong keyword in .co.in is unlikely to pay any sort of decent returns (at the moment). In terms of offers received, I probably receive 75% on .in and 25% on .co.in at the moment.

Anyone else with an input is more than welcome to comment...

I disagree, guys. Though I think .in has a broader target as it's great for websites completely unrelated to India (Hotels.in would be great for branding a hotel portal with worldwide scope), .co.in is still great for indian companies because it has history and credibility so I think there's enough room for both TLDs in the future of indian website development.

old is gold, the co.in tld are still rocking with their ratings as compared to .in domain tlds the .co.in are worth and will be.

Good to know!

Finally, let us not forget the most important factor in business to consumers and customers- price. Having a considerably lower renewal price than .in makes .co.in a juicy choice for cheap consumers of domain names. On another note, the fact that all LLL.co.ins arent registered makes me feel it is not in the same league as .in.All LLL.co.ins will be regged sooner or later though.

My biggest domain sale to date has been a .co.in. It was a great keyword and hence the valuation. So yes, I am a fan of both .co.in and .in

If its a great keyword, my suggestion is don't undersell it..

Given the high level of .in domain usage, I feel that .co.in domains can be affected positively. Those who are willing to invest more may also grab the .co.in domains while it's still available and use it for sister site or just redirect to the main site in case people remember the wrong address. Especially since it is relatively cheap, it can be a worthy long-term investment.
