At about 7.30 pm IST we were hacked :(

It has taken about 8 hours to get the forum back up - sorry for the delay. It has been a long day!

We lost the last 8 hours or so of posts, so if your post is missing, that is why.

I still need to get vbseo working - I'm in the process of upgrading this.

If you see anything else that needs fixing, please let me know.

:O ... who got that jealoused with INF?
Jeff... that's what good forum have side effects to...

hope our details were not hacked... thanks

In business & Development, all development threads vanished........

Jeff, please PM me about your hosting. I am curious as to what you are paying for hosting - server limitations, etc .. My server can handle anything A-Z - perhaps I could give you a better home, if interested write me a message.

We talked about this briefly before. If this is on shared hosting there is no doubt I could improve the experience for all INforum users - maybe up mailbox limits as well.

Domaining.com also HACKED???????????????
Message posted on home page:

Thanks everyone for all of your support!

This has been done.

It's good to know that Inforum is back.

Thanks :)

Welcome back.
Do you know how did he hack the forum?

Some malicious code was inserted.

Mobile css is missing jeff.
And shared hosting is so risky.

Thanks for catching that. For now I've just got the forum showing the regular skin for mobile. I'll get a better mobile skin in the near future.

No, I don't think this happened.

Those were previously moved to sub-forums. All threads should still be there.

Thanks for your offer Ryan! We'll be moving hosts in the near future.

In fixing everything up I seem to have gotten rid of a lot of garbage on the server. So, I've doubled the PM limit from 150 to 300.

Jeff, for info, it seems that trader rating does not work, I obtain a 404 error for various users.

Thanks for catching this. It should be fixed now.

Domaining.com also HACKED???????????????

I was thinking the same thing too!

You would think that people who have the ability to hack sites would turn their knowledge to better uses.

I can picture the hacker now, friendless, sad little guy is his own corner of a darkened room getting it off on his sad little achievements. The scary thought is he is likely to be one of those that also goes on a shooting spree at his uni or college.

Desperately in need of counseling or putting down!

If Our site is getting hacked then that is our fault..
We have made mistakes in building our website.
Choosing webhost.

Tell that to the FBI and other major institutions that have been hit.

The top hackers are nearly always at least one step ahead of every next new defense.

Not always true !
However cautious you are..there are loopholes in everything...even if you choose a good host
your code may be a culprit.
Even if you have great codding and everything good, they can DDoS your site! Now there is no fault of yours but even large hosts find it a little difficult to mitigate a DDoS attack without a single minute downtime!

We were just hacked again today :(

Before I thought the attack was random. Now it seems to be a bit more targetted.

We've been hacked a third time!

We lost about 13 1/2 hours of posts :(

This attack is obviously very targetted. We've upset someone - perhaps in the drop catching thread. I figure if you can program a good catching script, you probably know enough to hack a website.

Anyhow, I've made a number of changes to the forum. I know that there are a number of rough edges that need to be fixed still, but at this point I'm primarily concentrating on security.

V bulletin is never a secured platform. There are few underground private exploits which are not known to even vbulletin core developers. I have 7 licenses for vbulletin as i run different forums. In last 2 years i got hacked many times with those exploits and finally i lost interest on vbulletin. Jeff if you need any help contact me.
