This is in no way Jeff asking me to post this. It is something I brought up as I keep on running out of mail space. I have a serious question. Noone's name will be shown on votes but feel free to post and make your comments readable by Jeff.

Would you pay ...

$5 a month, get more space in your inbox and premium member logo
$10 a month, get more space in your in box and maybe a highlighted thread when you post.
$20 a month, get same as above and one sticky a month in sales thread

This is NOT what Jeff has in plan - he wants to keep it Free. I am just curious what others think. Jeff provides a good community here, and if he can - I think he deserves to make some change on it for his time spent (connections gained aside <wink>)

P.S. PLEASE VOTE !

let it be free.. revenue models can be built (and infact are built) to support andkeep it running..

And Jeff agrees - I just thought larger mailboxes, highlighted threads, stick sales threads etc would be cool is all .. Only reason I brought it up ..

Jeff maintaining this forum is a gift to Indian domainers(Indian and worldwide) in itself. Indian domaining and web development is in its infancy. Who wants a paid forum now, if we look at sales range and volume happening in general here I think it is not feasible to many.

Remaining as a free resource will get more people involved also.

If anyone needs a bigger PM storage limit, they can talk to Jeff personally make a donation or something to cover the costs of maintenance, nice option to go with given the situation.

This is my opinion.

Thanks,
Nanda.

Agreed - it is very kind of Jeff.

It's an awesome thing he is doing. When .in comes to light fullly it will pay him well :)

In the mean time - again, I just thought having a larger mailbox ... highlighted threads etc would be cool. Personal opinion, nothing else. I did ask Jeff about this and he wasn't able to move it to a larger server yet. Maybe I can help him with that in the coming months.

My way of giving back ...

i like inforum as it gives a dedicated platform to indian cctlds.

definitely we can always support it the way one can to make it live , running and grow.

every forum these days have a inclination to the founder's platform somewhere and those cctlds only are mostly promoted or discussed.

this forum gives indian thoughts a higher weightage, count my support anytime Jeff.

Wish Jeff asked me to post this, ryanmlanane.

I am game to pay!

I don't intend to justify the kind of value this forum has added to domainers - both new and seasoned ones. The ones who've been here even for a few weeks here know what they have gained.

That's my take!!

$ 50 a Year could be considered as one of the options, to start with.

Hope to hear you soon, Jeff! :)

When I mentioned to Jeff charging, even just a small monthly fee for a larger inbox (as mine had been repeatedly full) his firm answer was no. He is considering moving to a larger server. Once I get this crazy networking mess I am dealing with - been through 8 different servers now (hahaha) I will see if it is viable to host this for Jeff gratis - maybe then I can get a larger mailbox ? :)

Other than that I am sure Jeff will take Donations. I plan on offering one fairly soon - as well as some other things. If you like the forum that much I think the simplest thing to do is paypal jeff a few bucks as a donation.

I don't think anyone would object though if he decided to add a donate button - but again that is entirely up to Jeff, and seriously I do not speak on his behalf. I have only spoke to him by PM twice. I should get to know him better though :)

I prefer to keep it for free, . by making it paid forum we will discourage the new comers and also introduce the segregation between members and add further complexity and administrative efforts to Jeff, what I will suggest is to introduce a SUPPORT FORUM option in the site , like a paypal donate button. The people who are benefiting of the forum can contribute some amounts . IMHO. I am assuming members will contribute for this cause to enjoy the additional features from the forum.

Donate button is a sensible idea..just like Jeff wants to keep it free, some domainers would also like to show their appreciation towards the good work he has put in.

I am new here and the information I have picked up in the past few weeks, no amount of money can provide.
That is the advantage of a open community approach...info for all.

Old thread and I haven't posted in a long time but I figured I'd throw my 2 cents into this.

Donations rarely work. As good as it may sound, they just don't. Also, monthly? Don't we all have enough monthly payments? I think any sort of monthly payment would be short-lived as well.

Might I suggest a premium membership. Maybe this premium membership gives users a larger inbox, increased viewing capacity, some premium member forums or even free domain escrow services provided by this forum so the buyer and seller can close the deal with ease. There's a ton of options that could be made available for a 'Premium' and a premium membership could be $25.00 a year or something like that. Warrior Forum does $40 a lifetime and that seems to work well but they have other income channels as well.

These are just my thoughts, having a run a few forums myself and learned over the years that donations rarely work unless it's something tugging on their heart strings. :)
