ANOTHER FIRST NEWS FROM MITSU - (.भारत )

As We discussed earlier with most of the Mitsu customers that very soon we have .bharat (.भारत) for IDN is coming and same is now confirmed.

All most all newspaper in India carried this article today but the best one is in DNA newspaper in Mumbai edition .

We observe that lot of Mitsu customers already jumped to register domain name in .IN and .com namespace with word BHARAT in it.

wow, this is going to be significant, what is it like will it be idn.भारत or abcd.भारत
and how will it work on the local browsers without idn support? will it have any registration restrictions, and any price news,
regards

it will be in fully in regional languages like (in hindi) यात्रा.भारत and if you go for Gujarati .भारत then same string will fully be in Gujarati યાત્રા.ભારત and so on

That's very good news!

Any information as to the date this will start?

How will these be issued?

Will the prices be the same as .in domains?

Be very wary here.

Go for the very premium names in the Indian languages as they will have some value. Secondary names will take a very long time to achieve any value.

The .com/.net of all good IDN India names have long gone and they will be your competition.

This of course is simply my opinion.

Thanks for the tips wot!

Out of curiosity, by "long gone" what year(s) do you mean?

I read the DNA article and I am not clear whether it will be new domain extensions or CDAC will map the Indian Language Scripts to existing Domains?
Here is the Quote from the DNA Article.
In India, the Centre for Advanced Computing (C-DAC), which has its headquarters in Pune, is ready with the technology to effect the change for Indians.
“So far, we had control only over websites with the suffix .in. This suffix will soon be replaced with .bharat in the scheduled Indian languages,”
said Mahesh Kulkarni, group coordinator, C-DAC GIST (graphics and intelligence based script technology).
Once domain names in Indian scripts come into existence, Google could be written as www .google.bharat (in Indian scripts) and C-DAC: Centre for Development of Advanced Computing as www. cdac.bharat
Indian scripts would also be enabled for suffixes such as .org and .co

Dates are not yet declared ...
In our opinion New IDN will be issued in same manner as .IN issued .. first to TM holders and then to public.
Pricing is not yet clear .... but In our opinion will be same as .co.in domains, to popularize the new extension.

It will be new extension only, existing domains (.in and .co.in etc.) has nothing to do with new extension.

Things are not cleared yet as same discussion is going since last one and half years, may be same will speed up now.

Will existing acsii .co.in/.in holders have any first option similar to tm's?

Premature IDN TLD Hopes

The announcements about .bharat appear misleading and premature. The application process does not begin until November 16, 2009. Only government-sector organizations appear qualified to apply.

Details here:

ICANN | ICANN Bringing the Languages of the World to the Global Internet

There are technical issues with Devanagari character sets that need to be resolved prior to an application being filed. Better to start properly, rather than having to undergo disruptive modifications after domains have been assigned.

@DomainWalla, thanks for the info.

The fact that plans for IDNs are moving forward is what's so exciting. I think most of us are realistic in our expectations, and know they'll be many setbacks, delays and problems before such IDNs are properly in place. ;)

Net turns truly Indian as .bharat goes online from 2010

Net turns truly Indian as .bharat goes online from 2010- Internet-Infotech-The Economic Times

Interesting note
"The first right of refusal for .bharat URLs will be given to those with .in registration. For example, a google.co.in or a Yahoo.co.in will get the first right of refusal to have a google.bharat or yahoo.bharat in Indian languages. "

Most press reporters in India still still mean .co.in when they refer to .in registration.

Yes, but does it mean the .co.in or the .in gets precedent or not yet defined?
