Epik For Domainers

I"m not sure if people have seen that there is a new monetization option available for domains - Epik

According to their website:

Epik is building the world’s largest direct navigation network. Join now and see how merging authoritative content, descriptive domain names, and site generation tools will increase your traffic and monetization.
You can see a sample website here:
johnmaynardkeynes.com

I'm normally not too keen on these sorts of things, but it's run by Rob Monster, who has a pretty good track record in the domain industry.

Has any one tried this? I've just submitted 4 domains for consideration - I still need to hear back to see if they are approved. They are all Geo domains - including one Indian one. If they get accepted, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for sharing this information Jeff, I am currently reviewing Epik - and would update if I also opt to submit any domains to them.

Cheers

Seems promising - have submitted 4 domains and lets see how it turns out.

I haven't got any update / response as yet in my inbox as of now... How long did it take them to approve and inform you after you submitted your domains to them?

I'd contact them and find out. I'm not really sure what the criteria for acceptance is. My understanding is that they've got content for particular areas and that it's first come, first serve when it comes to a particular topic area. I also think that they are looking for Geos.

Jeff, it would be much appreciated if you check back in with us in a month or so after running the Epik platform on you names.
Thanks

any geo with indian tlds or indian geos ? submitted 3 names :) lets see

The Epik website wasn't that clear to me, but this is what I understand:

Epik gets its content from something similar to an encyclopedia. The content is original, and only gets used once at a time.

For example, if you have a geo domain related to Paris, but a similar domain is already being used under the monetisation program, then your domain would not be accepted (as the 'Paris content' is already being used). However, your Paris domain could be accepted at a later date if the other domain is no longer using the program.

The steps Epik is taking will help avoid duplicate content issues with search engines, which is obviously a good thing. ;)

Is that your understanding of the program as well?

Edit: Oops, just noticed Jeff's earlier post explaining how the program works...

Hi chandan, is France.co.in the domain that was accepted by Epik? Are they accepting Indian tlds?

Edit: The domain resolves now, and I have the answers to my questions. Yes, and yes.

Congrats Chandan!

Good to know that they accept .in and .co.in domains.

Looks like they heavily emphasize Geos.

thanks :)

yeah i submitted 2 .in and one co.in ( france.co.in ) they accepted the co.in as its a geo :p

let see how it works as it gets traffic i can observe and think to add more domains

That's good news Chandan. Appreciate if Jeff/ Chandan can Keep this thread updated as you find out more about the performance of this service.

Thanks Jeff for sharing valuable info.

I have got two of my .in domains accepted.
Though no idea of performance :)

Congrats anubhaw!

I think you need to wait a few weeks to tell if it's worthwhile.

I saw Jeff's reply above and I said to myself "what the heck, let me see what geo.in/ co.in's are available" and I regged some really good geos today morning! I submitted them to epik, they are already approved and the code/ content slapped on to the geo.epik.com. Just need to change my nameservers for these domains and I am done! Neat!

I saw that at the bottom of the content pages they have "powered by evri.com" - I checked out Evri, and they provide widgets and API's that can pull content from their site. So the photos and videos are pulled from Evri. The city's description is from wikipedia. I am not sure where they are pulling the listing from. However, I don't know what is "original content" they refer to.. could it be the listings? I am not complaining, just observing.

Anybody found out what % epik splits their earnings with the domain owners? As long as I can earn more than the reg fees and annual renewal costs, I am ok (I guess) with the service :)
