How to Remove Google Redirect Virus

Unluckily, my computer was recently infected with the Google Redirect Virus. While clicking on Google search results, the virus would open up a new tab and redirect me to spammy and/or potentially harmful sites.

In case someone else comes across this problem, here's how I managed to get rid of the Google Redirect Virus. First, I carried out a full scan using Norton, but Norton could not find the virus on my computer (I tried and tried again but the results kept saying no virus detected). I ended up downloading a free version of Hitman Pro 3 and it caught the virus in a matter of minutes! (Note: only download this software from a reputable site otherwise you might end up with a malicious version!)

it may depend on updated virus definitions. Ceres may be having little old definitions or norton it self not updated their database

The Norton definitions were up-to-date when I performed the scans.

Ad-Aware
Spybot
SpywareBlaster

NAV is a resource hog as well as doesn't catch a few viruses.
AVG can't catch a few either.

Have been using Avast with great peace of mind while browsing hundreds of sites (including many new and unknown) and doing many downloads and uploads daily.
