.in development...
I don't know what most of domainers feel about .in domain here in terms of development. Is it targeted mainly for indian audience or it can be developed into domain for international audience ? Did any body develop site for international audience or for US audience.
Lets say if I develop real good .in domain, would it rank higher in google compared to .com or it would rank higher only when you search google.in
Atleast in terms of parking at parked.com, I noticed that .in domain gets the lower cpc compared to .com domains.
let me know your views.

Re: .in development...
.IN can be used for either, but generally people would assume content on a .in website is targeted at India.
Google.co.in does give a ranking boost to .in and .co.in domains. You probably could get a similar ranking boost by hosting in India or having an Indian address on most pages of your website, or even by getting links mostly from other Indian websites.
The point is that if someone is searching on Google.co.in, they likely are looking for content relevant to India, so that's what Google gives them. They look at a number of factors to determine whether a website gives Indian content.
I'm not sure that's true. *Traffic* from India generally gets lower cpc than North American or European traffic, regardless of the domain extension.Atleast in terms of parking at parked.com, I noticed that .in domain gets the lower cpc compared to .com domains.

Re: .in development...
Hi Jeff,
It is not traffic from India - it is the domain. For example I have domain regarding credit score which gets good traffic. It is .in domain, however the cpc is around 30 to 60 cents, and based on traffic analysis the clicks are from USA. But when I get clicks on my other credit score related .com domain clicks are in the range of 1.5 to 3.00 dollars. So I think regardless of location of traffic, domain extension does play a role. Now this is true for parked domain, I do not know how it would affect the developed one.

I don't think developing a .in domain for US traffic can be a good idea. Always develop it by targeting Indian traffic, in long run you will get plenty of advantages.
Developed .in domains coming at top positions like anything in google search results from India.
Developing with 2 to 5 years long term goal can give extraordinary results in terms of search traffic & affiliate sales.

Re: .in development...
How does a parked .in domain end up with mostly US traffic? Unless it's something aimed at NRIs...

Re: .in development...
I did not say that traffic is from USA only, traffic is from everywhere but clicks were from USA. However number of clicks were not very high but when there were clicks, they were in the range of 30 to 60 cents and they were from USA because I checked traffic analysis on the days of clicks and traffic was from USA on that particular day. They are parked with a company which does not pay "clicks" outside USA or Europe.
So based on that, I think that even though clicks are from USA pricing are different for .com and .in.
hope that clarifies and answers your question.
