The Internet Era and Teenagers

IT.com
The invention of the Internet is with no doubt one of the most greatest inventions ever made, the invention of internet has made so many things easy and possible for us, But unfortunately the same internet has made some negative impacts on our society especially on our teenagers. Internet addiction has become a common habit of most of the teenagers especially in the developed countries, teenagers spend more time on the internet when compared to other age group of people. But the fact most of us don't is that Increased use of internet affects the social behavior of a child and this indirectly affects the child's future, another greatest threat to our teenagers is pornography or what is called as "The Adult World", this sites include illicit images and videos which are not meant of the children, But unfortunately, these sites are easily accessible by anybody, the teenagers are most prone to get addicted to these sites which will not only affect their education but also their social behavior. Children these day don't come out from their house and play or have fun with friends which did in our childhood, instead they spend most of their time in front of the computer, this is definitely not a good sign.
After knowing all these negative affects of internet , it is really not a good action to let your children use internet daily, but i m not telling that you must restrict your child completely from using internet, instead you must monitor the activity of your child on the internet and with that we must encourage them to go out and explore the sunshine.

Well said, Kumar. I think that a lot of parents are happy to let the internet raise their children. I agree that there are advantages and disadvantages to the internet. My daughter spends a lot of time on the internet, but I do monitor all the sites that she goes to and seeing as it's mostly educational and harmless game sites that she visits, I'm alright with her spending that amount of time online.

There is a joke I heard once about a kid who was raised by an app. I thought it was funny at the time, but now I'm not so sure. I get what you mean about the internet affecting our kids in that way and the sad part is that it's their kids who will really suffer from the damage that the internet is inflicting on our society today.

I feel that the internet is just like any other good thing to have happened that surely must have a bad side. It is unfortunate that today's kids are so addicted to the internet that they seem not to be able to function without. It should be a wake up call to every parent out there who's keen on the future of the children.

The internet is like the streets, it's good that we can get out and know new places, but there are dangerous sites too. Especially kids need a lot of guidance. ;)

In a way, I think we also have parents that are addicted to the internet. I was at this family gathering and my cousin couldn't stay away from his phone the whole time, despite the daughter constantly trying to disrupt him by seeking attention. Some parents carry a huge portion of the blame too.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Kids are addicted to the internet because some parents do not have "time" for the kids. You want them off the internet? Early in their life, spend time with them and do what families use to do before the internet was a thing.

Last year, I had a 17 years old student who's an internet addict. It was so hard to make him focus on the class, even if he had the most simple assignments to do. He used to talk a lot to me, most of the times looking for advice and support. He had no friends at the Uni and he'd never practiced a single sport. I remember him now as an unhappy and kind of sad boy. I'm not stating that all the cases are like this, but if I were a parent I'd encourage my kids to do outdoor activities and to appreciate the nature, it's a fact they're going to spend a lot of time on the internet like every kid of their generation.

Unfortunately, the technology train is moving really fast and it is even becoming hard to control the time spent on the internet. I am not sure if this dies off with age because I recall having a hard time staying away from the internet when I was a teenager.
