It's inevitable that sometimes webmasters have to rely on free web host for various reasons. A few decided to use the domain redirection like TinyURL to look better. How effective is it, though? If you were a webmaster of a website hosted for free and can't add the TLD, will you use this service?

If you can get a free or cheap actual domain it looks better, but TLDs aren't necessary for everything. Using TinyURL makes it look like you have something to hide, and might mess up SEO traffic crediting, so I don't use one unless my users won't remember the full domain!

I agree that shortening your URL does come across as spammy in most places. I don't know that it messes with the SEO traffic crediting, but I also wouldn't use it just in case.
