With Apple CEO Tim Cook currently in India, the company is making news in the country left and right.

On Thursday, the iPhone maker announced it was opening a centre in Hyderabad that will focus on development of the Maps app for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. Apple says the new development centre will create up to 4,000 jobs.

"The talent here in the local area is incredible and we are looking forward to expanding our relationships and introducing more universities and partners to our platforms as we scale our operations," Cook said.

It comes a day after the company said it will build an iOS design and development accelerator in Bengaluru, considered home to India's startup scene.

Apple is hoping to increase its presence in the subcontinent, which is rapidly becoming one of the world's fastest growing and most important markets.

Seems that Apple is making great steps to develop its market in India and to claim a good chunk of demand before competition do it first.Opening a centre focused on development of the Maps app for Apple devices. 4,000 jobs is not too shabby.

Technically, India has a lot potential in terms of foreign direct investment. As the second largest population of the whole world, it can host a lot of investors with ample number of labor force. I might suspect that India has cheap labor that is why a lot BPO companies are eyeing its labor market. After all, job creation is still the big thing.
