Terms Of Use

You buy a website and everything seems good. Then you notice the Terms Of Use page and feel that half of what you see is unnecessary. Would you amend it?

After I go over it with a fine-toothed comb. I err on the side of caution though, so if I did amend it, I probably wouldn't amend it too much.

I have a great philosophy that works wonderfully in my life. If it ain't broke, don't try to amend it. Besides, I don't really understand most of the legal jargon and I would rather leave it to those who do.

I actually have a terms of use template that I use for all my sites and I only do very little amendment where necessary. There usually isn't any need to do any serious alterations.

I definitely would because what use is there for all that jargon if you cannot utilize it? I used not to be keen on the terms of use or terms and conditions up until I realized the weight that it carries. I am much more careful now.

The point here is that I've bought the website and reserve every right to do any amendments, where necessary. I have done such changes in the past and you'll realise that most of these documents normally contain lots of jargon.

Yeah but how many people actually understand that jargon? I'm willing to bet not a lot, and you might end up doing more harm than good. I would leave it to those who really understand it.

You own the website so why not take charge of everything else, including the Terms of Use. When we are signing up as members in a website, we never even seem to read the T & Cs. We simply rush and click 'I agree'. It may sound like jargon but at some point it may prove useful to somebody.
